How to create and manage a tournament

What's Score gives you full control to create and manage any sports tournament from registering participants to publishing results. You can create a tournament page, manage participant/team registrations, create automatic draws, manage match schedules, automatic points table, communication with participants, manage scorers, share live scores and publish results.

Create New Tournament

On What's Score home page or in tournaments page, click on the "Create New Tournament" button to start creating the tournament. Simply enter these values on the page:
  • Select the sport/game for the tournament
  • Select the organiser: If your club is organising the tournament, make sure to select the club name in 'Organised By' field
  • Choose the type of tournament (Knockout, Round-robin etc.,)
  • Setup Start and End dates for the tournament

Your tournament is now created and the public can see it online. You can continue to manage the tournament now, or return to it later via "My Tournaments" tab on the website.

Create Registration Form

After the tournament is created, it is visible to the public but they cannot register into it unless the organiser explicitly makes it available for open registrations. This control is with organiser to choose the time of allowing registrations. Following two actions must be performed before allowing registrations:
  • Enter participation details like participation type (singles/doubles/team), entry type (free/paid), payment instructions
  • Design registration form to add/modify any fields depending on what information you want to receive from participants

Save/Update the participant and registration details after you made necessary changes. Once saved and you want to start receiving registrations, click on the "Allow Registrations" button. After opening the tournament for registrations, it is not possible to edit the registration form. Please contact our support team if you want to make any changes.

Note: The Name and Email fields are mandatory fields and cannot be removed from the registration form.

Manage Scorers

As an organiser, you have full permissions to manage the whole tournament including the update of scores and results of matches. As in most cases, it is not possible for you to manage all matches and prefer to have a group of scorers/referees to manage scores and results. You can achieve this in two ways:
  1. Add one of more scorers to the tournament, they can only manage the schedule, scores and results. They cannot add/manage participants or any other privilege that is handled by the organiser.
  2. Allow participants to score their own matches - this is very popular in causal tournaments where there are not enough scorers/referees and participants generally manage their own matches. Organiser/Scorer will have the final privilege to overwrite participants score/result in case of any conflict.
As an organiser, you may choose to use a combination of both options available to you.

Draws, Schedules, Matches and Results

Once you received all registrations, you are ready to create draws to decide who plays who. Depending on the type of the tournaments, draws would be automatically created for your tournament. For example, if you created a knockout tournament then clicking on the 'Create Rounds and Matches" in Matches tab will create draws in bracket format by considering the number of participants and their seedings. If you created a Round-robin tournament, then you have a choice to split participants into multiple groups and create round-robin league within each group.
After draws are created and schedules are updated, participants would play their respective matches. Scorers will update the live scores and match results on What's Score website or mobile app.

Notifications

Every time a new match is created, a notification is sent to respective participants with information about their opponents and schedule. Similarly, when a match result is published, notifications are sent to respective participants along with the schedule for the next match.
